Purpose Statement

Our Mission is to create a golf course and club membership that epitomizes the fundamental values of Tradition, Innovation, and Sustainability so that our club remains a coveted destination for members and guests alike. Our Master Plan focuses on preserving the elegance and strategic brilliance of 1920s golf course architecture, honoring the golden age of the sport and the legacy of our front nine designers, Langford and Moreau.

We will return areas of our front to their original design intent while updating the back nine to work with Langford and Moreau’s vision—all while working with the expectations of the modern game.

About Kye Goalby—Golf Course Architect

After graduating from Wake Forest University and spending a few years in the financial industry, Kye Goalby began his golf course design career in 1990 working with his father, former Masters Champion Bob Goalby, on a new 18-hole golf course design in Illinois.

In 1997, after working on additional projects with his father, as well as two solo designs, where Kye’s approach of personally shaping all the greens and bunkers took hold, Kye embraced an opportunity to work with Tom Doak, then a fairly unknown young architect who also appreciated the hands-on approach to design. Kye has worked with Tom Doak’s Renaissance Golf Design for over 25 years throughout the world on a variety of new courses, renovations and restorations. Of these projects, nine are ranked in the Golfweek United States Top 100, and five of the new courses are in the Golf Magazine Top 100 in the World, including # 20, Tara Iti in New Zealand.

During the past five years Kye has also worked with architect Gil Hanse as the lead on-site associate on two highly regarded restorations of golf courses that will hold future US Opens. Oakmont will host the US Open in 2025, and Oakland Hills in Michigan is scheduled for 2034.

While in great demand to assist other architects, Kye has also done his own design work on both new courses and restorations including a restoration St Clair CC in Illinois originally designed by William Langford, the architect of West Bend’s front nine. Kye’s solo design work has also received accolades. His renovation of Abiko Golf Club in Tokyo, Japan that was voted Golf Magazines International Renovation of the Year in 2013. His renovation of Saratoga Golf and Polo Club in New York was ranked by Golf Magazine as the 11th best nine-hole course in the world after the renovation, and in 2023, Kye’s recently completed new design of The Tree Farm in South Carolina, with PGA Tour professional Zac Blair, was ranked by multiple publications in their Top 100’s in its first year of operation.

Questions & Answers

What is the timeline for getting these changes completed?

There is no definitive timeline for implementing the full master plan. Now that we have the design for the golf course the current and future Board of Directors can work annually on the development of a path forward for implementation of various aspects. The next step is to create a prioritization schedule of the plan timeline that would allow our club to implement changes to the golf course if our club is fiscally sound.

Why are we doing this now?

As the board has been working with the greens committee on the upcoming need for our sprinkler system replacement in 2-3 years (the current system is 30 years old), having a master plan for the course was a critical input for the irrigation consultants to be able to plan for less rework of sprinklers in the future.
